Tribute to a Deaf Gentleman

Jim Clelland was the only Deaf Staff member at the Belleville school for many years. First he was the farmer. Later, after the farm was gone, he was the groundskeeper. I have good memories of him. Here is one of my comments about him.

Jim died in 2003. The Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf has an obituary about Jim. You can read it if you click here.

Here are some more of my memories.

Hi,

While watching you give tribute to a deaf person, the foremost thing in my mind was this.

"A hearing teacher of the deaf blogging about his experiences being with the deaf. How wonderful!"

I look forward, in the future, being surprised by more websites or blogs like yours!

Way to go, Norm!

Hi Norm,

Oh yes, I remember Jim very well, a true Deaf gentleman. If he had a white beard, he would be a PERFECT SANTA CLAUS! He knew his responsibilities and duties far better than anyone. I met him several times after his retirement. I really missed him a lot. I have a great memory of him as a Deaf Gentleman who was the only Deaf adult we had ever seen in 1960's.

Thansk for sharing with us

Very nice story!! You brought some of my memories back to me. Back in 1960's, We got some Deaf staffs at Kentucky School for the Deaf, the ground keeper, janitor, coaches, High School teachers, PE teachers, dorm parents and a laundry supervisor. They are the ones we were always fond to hang around with.
Thanks for sharing heart-felt story. :)
